A Quick Guide To Google Alerts

PR is not advertising or marketing - its telling stories and encouraging other people to tell stories about your business. And if you're handling your own PR, you need to keep an eye on who is talking about you - and where they're doing it.

Yes, you can search through Google or Bing when you remember to, or browse the Search function in Facebook. But as with many communications tasks - automation is your friend. And Google Alerts do a lot of the hard work for you.

You can get emails when new results for a topic show up in Google Search. For example, you can get info about news, products, or mentions of your business name - or a competitor.

Create an alert

Go to Google Alerts at https://www.google.com/alerts

In the box at the top, enter the topic you want to follow.

To change your settings, click Show options. You can change things like:

How often you get notification

Your language

The part of the world you want info from

Click Create Alert. You’ll get emails whenever we find matching search results.

Edit an alert

Go to Google Alerts.

Next to an alert, click Edit .

If you don’t see any options, click Show options.

Make your changes.

Click Update Alert.

To change how you get alerts, click Settings check the options you want and click Save.

Delete an alert

Go to Google Alerts.

Next to the alert you want to remove, click Delete.

Note: You can also delete an alert by clicking Unsubscribe at the bottom of an alert email.

I set my alerts to arrive to my inbox daily, and delivered to my GSuite account, which is Gmail for businesses. Make sure when you set up your alerts that you use the Gmail account you use the most often - not the one for Internet shopping receipts or the one your teenager set up to get a free DePop code!
